Natural History Sessions

With the announcement of the Natural History GCSE in England and the push in the Senedd to have it available in Wales, these are exciting times to be a conservationist! My aim with these sessions is to capture the interest of children and inspire them to to get into conservation and zoology. At present, I offer one session; Nature Detectives. Though more are in development.

Nature Detectives at a glance:

This session hosts a discussion around animal adaptations and uses a selection of real skulls as its’ centre. All specimens are of British animals, some more obvious and some less obvious, to pique interest.

A quick itinerary:

  • Quick introduction to my work and what being a conservationist means.

  • Skulls are revealed and the children are given some time to look at them with minimal guidance, to note down what they see and what they think.

  • I will lead a discussion around what they have seen and use each skulls features in turn to narrow down what it could be. With the reveal of each animal, I will give a brief overview of them and what their role in the ecosystem is.

  • Time at the end for questions!

If this sounds interesting please do get in touch! The full lesson plan and presentation are available on request and I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
